ASTM WK67841

New Practice for Calculating a Figure of Merit for a Distribution of Colorimetric Differences

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: E12.04 | Committee E12 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This practice gives methods to be employed for the calculation of an index of merit for a distribution of colorimetric differences. Like color difference itself, the index of merit is considered to be worse when it is larger and better when it is smaller. The differences employed in the calculation may be assessed by any color difference equation supported in D2244.

bias, bootstrap, combinatorial difference, precision, repeatability, reproducibility

The standard is needed because the difference distribution obtained are not statistically normal. Thus, conventional statistical analysis fails. Explicit procedures to deal with the non-normal distributions are required in this Committee.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
