Developed by Subcommittee: C16.33 | Committee C16 | Contact Staff Manager
1. Scope
1.1 This test method determines the amount of water retained by flat specimens of rigid thermal insulations after immersion and drying. 1.2 This test method is intended to be used for the characterization of materials in the laboratory. It is not intended to simulate any particular environmental condition potentially encountered in building construction applications. 1.3 Units--The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Keywords
drying; immersion; rigid thermal insulation; thermal insulation; water absorption; water retentionRationale
Current standards cover water absorption (water retained), but there is not information available after materials are further stored in air.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
