ASTM WK67784

    Revision of F3347 - 18 Standard Specification for Metal Press Insert Fittings with Factory Assembled Stainless Steel Press Sleeve for SDR9 Cross-linked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: F3347 - 20

    Developed by Subcommittee: F17.10 | Committee F17 | Contact Staff Manager

    cold and hot water distribution; cross-linked polyethylene; metal insert fittings; metal press insert fittings; PEX; press joints; stainless steel press sleeves;;

    In order to enhance the market acceptability of this new standard I request that this standard be modified to include SDR9 Polyethylene of Raised Temperature (PE-RT) tubing meeting the requirements of ASTM F2769 or ASTM F2623 as an acceptable material, in addition to PEX tubing already called out. The popularity of PE-RT is growing rapidly in these same applications where PEX is being used with this fitting system. The vast majority of standards similar in construction and assembly; brass or plastic insert with a crimp or press sleeve (F1807, F2159 & F2098), already incorporate both materials (PEX F876 & PE-RT F2769) as they are very similar in chemical make-up and possesses the same physical properties necessary for this type of fittings system. The title, scope and any section referring to PEX and its associated standards would be modified to include PE-RT and its associated standards as an alternate material acceptable for this fitting system.
