    Revision of B824 - 17 Standard Specification for General Requirements for Copper Alloy Castings

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: B824 - 17

    Developed by Subcommittee: B05.05 | Committee B05 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK67644

    Keywords

    copper alloy castings; copper-base alloy castings; UNS No. C94700; UNS No. C95300; UNS No. C95400; UNS No. C95410; UNS No. C95500; UNS No. C95520; UNS No. C96800;;

    Rationale

    Castings utilized in multiple component products may be made from castings of various alloy compositions. Applying a BI or Si will not accurately identify all components and can be misleading to the scrap stream. Additionally when piping systems enter the scrap stream they commonly have tube, pipe, or other appurtenances attached which can again make the assessment based on BI or Si marking of a single cast component inaccurate. Finally after discussions at the recent Copper Scrap Summit the major recyclers in attendance identified they test the materials received rather than accepting shipments based on identification.
