    Developed by Subcommittee: D10.21 | Committee D10 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK67358

    Keywords

    compression test; distribution cycle; distribution environment; drop test; mechanical handling; package; packaging; random vibration; shipping container; shipping unit; vacuum; vibration;;

    Rationale

    The current ASTM D4169 Schedule E Air profile and test is severe and does not reflect current air transportation vibration hazard. Until research is completed by a consortium of companies/industry, universities, and individuals - the WK 67358 collaboration area group members recommend the current ASTM D4169 air profile or use ISTA 4AB Jet Aircraft Profile until the ASTM profile is developed. The air profiles do not consider tarmac vehicle vibration or plane landing/take off shock; the air vibration profiles use only wheels up to wheels down measurements. The collaboration group intends to have a new air profile to present to the ASTM D4169 D.10.21 sub and main committees when more data is available.
