ASTM WK67115

    Revision of C76 - 19 Standard Specification for Reinforced Concrete Culvert, Storm Drain, and Sewer Pipe

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: C76 - 19b

    Developed by Subcommittee: C13.02 | Committee C13 | Contact Staff Manager

    circular pipe; culvert; D-load; pipe; reinforced concrete; sewer pipe; storm drain;;

    Proposal to modify Table 5, Note B of ASTM C 76 to add a provision for a single circular cage for 24 Wall C with a reinforcing area of 0.27 in. This is 42% more steel (+0.08 in) than a combined inner and outer circular cage and 125% more steel (+0.15 in) than a single elliptical cage. At least one producer has obtained both Class V 0.01 and ultimate strengths using a single circular cage of 0.20 in. An area 0.27 in is proposed based on further analysis to minimize or negate factors such as closer wire spacing and/or higher concrete strengths that may have produced more favorable results for the 0.20 in steel area tested. As with any of the Table 5 steel areas, a Class V pipe so manufactured is subject acceptance based on Section 5 of this standard.
