    Due to considerable variations of mechanical properties of cold worked Austenitic Stainless steel bars from surface (higher strength) to core (lower strength and higher ductility) clarification of Full Size tensile testing is necessary to avoid mechanical properties misrepresentation from test results of machined specimen. Current wording (Alternatively) in paragraph 9.1.1 for stainless steel strain hardened bolting (Classes 2, 2B, and 2C) Full Size tensile testing requirements allows for misinterpretation. Revision of paragraph 9.1.1 is needed to address this ambiguity. The proposals are for deletion of word Alternatively and addition of an allowance for machined specimen testing for bolting greater than 1.500 diameter. Per ASTM A370 location of machined specimen is at mid thickness (mid radius) for greater than 1.500 diameters which is more representative of the material tensile properties compare to the center (1.500 and less diameters).
