ASTM WK66672

New Test Method for Evaluation and Classification of Low Emitting Caulks & Sealants

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: C24.20 | Committee C24 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK66672

    1. Scope

Define a standardized test method for reporting total emissions for a caulk or sealant product. Will need to identify a complete list of reportable items needed from the various programs (LEED, CARB, Miami Dade County etc.) and asses the test methods appropriate for measuring these emissions. Some test methods may currently be in place in some of the third party certification programs currently available (Greenguard, SeaanSeal, GS-36 etc.) and may serve as a base to start from.

    Keywords

    VOC Compliant, Green

    Rationale

There are currently various companies that offer third party certifications for low emitting materials, but I have found that there are incorrect assumptions used in some or they may not test for everything currently being asked for by the latest regulating bodies. It would be good to have a standard testing method that has the sole purpose of evaluating and reporting what the total emissions are for a product and incorporates all of the requested values by the various regulating bodies.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
