    Rationale

In ASCE 7-10, the wind speed requirements for Risk Category III and IV structures were combined on the same map. In ASCE 7-16, the wind speed requirements for Risk Category III and IV structures were split into two separate maps. Due to this split, it was necessary to revise the current enhanced protection language of Section 6.2.2 to direct the user to the correct map when using the ASCE 7-16 standard. The language was simplified to only reference the Risk Category IV map for enhanced protection buildings. If the user of the standard was utilizing ASCE 7-10 in their design, the appropriate map would be the Risk Category III/IV map. If utilizing ASCE 7-16, the appropriate map would be the Risk Category IV map. Any building codes that reference this updated version of ASTM E1996 will likely not be referencing the 2005 (or earlier) versions of the ASCE 7 standard. In order to simplify the document, both Section 6.2.2.4 and Annex A3 are being removed.
