    1. Scope

    This guide provides an overview of specifications, requirements, and example means of compliance for process qualification of production parts produced with the powder bed fusion by laser beam process. This document covers only process qualification issues directly related to the AM equipment and does not cover feed stock qualification or post processing beyond powder removal. This guideline addresses IQ, OQ, and PQ issues directly related to the AM machine and connected equipment. Physical facility, personnel, process and material issues are only included to the extent necessary to support machine qualification.

    Rationale

    Current F42/TC261 standardization efforts focus on many aspects of producing high quality safety critical parts, including raw material, personnel and process standards. However, there are no standard that directly address on-going qualification of the machine and facility. NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Specification 3717 describes an equipment and facility control plan, but this document assumes space applications only.
