    Rationale

    During the D02.03 subcommittee (SC-03) combustion sub-group meeting (held June, 2018 in Phoenix, AZ) correspondence from an SC-03 member and related data gathered from three types of D5453 compliant apparatus types was discussed. At issue was Note 5 found in IP490/ISO 20846 that informs the user of a potential positive bias to low ( 15 ug/g) sulfur determinations that is caused by the presence of relatively large concentrations of bound-nitrogen compounds present in the test sample. Data that confirmed the validity of the aforementioned Note 5 subject matter was presented. Following a brief discussion, the combustion sub-group members and guests in attendance reached a general consensus that the information presented in IP490/ISO 20846 Note 5 be revised into D5453.
