    Revision of A439 / A439M - 15 Standard Specification for Austenitic Ductile Iron Castings

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: A439 / A439M - 15

    Developed by Subcommittee: A04.02 | Committee A04 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK64637

    Keywords

    austenitic; corrosion resistant; ductile iron; mechanical properties; nodular iron; tensile strength; yield strength;;

    Rationale

    The ballot results from the latest submission consisted of two negatives which were ruled persuasive. The proposed wording of paragraph 9.5 improved some of the existing text but omitted an important statement leaving unwarranted ambiguity in the revised text. The revised text stated that test bars shall be cast after the last iron is poured to produce the castings; the requirement using the same ladle of metal was deleted. Read literally, the revision could mean that that test bars cast next week or next month are acceptable as a test of castings made today. Only Section 9.5 of the standard is included on this ballot.
