Standard practice in our industry is to test two cylinders for compressive strength and then taking the average of the two to represent the concrete strength. Current language for compression testing of concrete cylinders is confusing when relating the amount of cylinders tested as well as how the passing average is calculated. For example, if you are only testing two or three cylinders, why would you say, not more than 10% of the cylinders tested? This makes no sense since we dont test 10 cylinders, so if one fails you automatically have more than 10%. The changes below are proposed to make the cylinder testing section more easily understood and to clarify the minimum number of cylinders and the average compressive strength required for acceptance.
