    1.1 This test method covers determining the concentration of ortho-phthalate(s) in resilient flooring. 1.2 This test method does not purport to address or supersede any regulatory requirements. 1.3 UnitsThe values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

    This standard provides a test method for determining concentration of ortho-phthalate in resilient flooring. Currently, no consensus-based global test method exists for determining concentration of ortho-phthalates in flooring. Because a standard test method does not exist, flooring manufacturers are being asked to test flooring products to either the Consumer Product Safety Commissions Standard Operating Procedure for Determination of Phthalates (CPSC-CH-C1001-09.4), which was developed for analyzing phthalate content in childrens toys and child care articles or test product in accordance to a test method developed by a testing certification entity that is not consensus based and has not undergone round robin testing. For this reason, members of the Resilient Floor Covering Institute have developed the attached test method determining concentration of ortho-phthalates in resilient flooring.

    The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
