    Rationale

ASTM C936 currently does not include a consistent, comprehensive approach to the minimum frequency for the various tests. This ballot proposes adding requirements that C140 testing (compressive strength and absorption) be performed every 12 months, and abrasion resistance (when required) be performed every 24 months. The requirement for C1645 freeze-thaw testing change from the current 12 months to 24 months to accommodate the 3+ months of time typically needed to complete the testing process and to make this time interval consistent with other ASTM hardscape standards In addition to the time intervals, language is also added to specify that testing must be performed on units with the same materials, mix design, and production methods as those to be delivered to a job. These changes will make the minimum testing intervals and other testing requirements in ASTM C936 substantially similar with other C15.03 standards, such as ASTM C1319 for Grid Pavers, C1372 for SRW units, and C90 for CMU.
