    1. Scope

    1.1 This specification covers hot-dip galvanized, low-relaxation, seven-wire steel strand for use in post-tensioned reinforced concrete construction. Grade 270 [1860] has a nominal tensile strength of 1860 MPa [270 ksi] based on the nominal steel area of the strand.

    Rationale

    Currently, there is not an ASTM standard for galvanized PC strand as there is in the EU. ASTM A416 only covers uncoated strand for these applications. The objective of this standard is to establish a standalone specification for this product, which is similar in strength and design requirements as ASTM A416 uncoated 270K PC strand.
