1.1 This specification covers hot dip galvanized, low-relaxation, seven-wire steel strand for use in applications such as post-tensioning concrete structures (for example, PT tendons, bridge stay cables), reinforcing concrete structures (for example, parking structures, concrete tanks), and other similar applications. Grade 270  has nominal tensile strength of 270 ksi [1860 MPa] based on the nominal steel area of the strand. 1.2 This specification is applicable for orders in either inch-pound units (as Specification AXXX) or in SI units (as Specification AXXXM). 1.3 Units--The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the specification. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, is any, associated with its use. Currently, there is not an ASTM standard for galvanized PC strand for post tension or cable stay applications as there is in the EU. ASTM A416 only covers uncoated strand for these applications. The objective of this standard is to establish a standalone specification for this product, which is similar in strength and design requirements as ASTM A416 uncoated 270K PC strand.
