Developed by Subcommittee: F42.05 | Committee F42 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This International Standard deals with technical specifications for metallic powders intended to be used in additive manufacturing and covers the following aspects: Documentation and traceability Sampling Particle size distribution Chemical composition Characteristic densities Morphology Flowability Contamination Packaging and storage This International Standard does not deal with safety aspects. In addition, this International Standard gives specific requirements for used metallic powders in additive manufacturing.

ISO/ASTM/DIS 52907:2018(E) was developed in Joint Group 67 by both ASTM and ISO experts. This proposed standard expands ASTM F3049 from characterization of metal powder to best practices for the metal powder bed fusion process. This proposed standard specifies the physical characteristics, packaging and storing of metal powders to achieve a consistent process for general metal powder bed fusion operations.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
