    Rationale

    It was found that stress relieving L7M bolting, within 50F of the original tempering temperature, more effectively reduces measurable work hardening in the deformed zone of roll threaded product than stress relieving at the minimum tempering temperature. Data supporting this statement was presented at the 11/17 ASTM conference. This revision will be to update the L7M post machining stress relief requirements to require that the stress relief take place within 50F of the original tempering temperature
