    Rationale

    D471 Standard Test Method for Rubber PropertyEffect of Liquids was revised in 2016 to include a dual hanger specimen apparatus to allow standard and alternative specimens of identical compounds from the same sample to be tested within a single test tube enclosure. D865 is being revised to follow the revisions to D471, quintessentially harmonizing the two methods. Figure 2 has been added, graphically depicting the dual hanger apparatus and the accompanying changes to the methodology, adjusted to replicate the text of D471. This is necessary to prevent any conflict in procedure between the two methods. The highlighted text and Fig. 2-left and Fig 2-right, with particular attention to Parts 5, 8, and 14, are the only items being balloted. Time was taken to renumber the sections to reduce the effort of the editorial staff and to improve readability for those reviewing and balloting the revision.
