    WK61385

    1. Scope

This standard describes the testing systems that are used for quick determination of performance of asphalt materials using a rheometer. The parameters to be measured include Performance Grade (PG). This standard is appropriate for asphalt materials with particles less than 250 micron such as neat and modified asphalt binder, unaged and aged extracted binder, emulsion residue, and asphalt mastic.

    Keywords

BBR, Low-Temperature PG, m-value, Bending Beam Rheometer, DSR,

    Rationale

This standard will result in significant reduction in testing time and cost and at the same time significantly improves the lab safety. It will be used for quality control of binders by state department of transportations, binder suppliers, paving contractors, asphalt plants, refineries and also by universities worldwide. Due to significant cost savings, this method is very attractive to users outside U.S., especially third-world countries.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
