    1. Rationale

    1) Addition of Clause 7.4 to address lay ratio rules for adjacent layers in the conductor. The wording adopts what IEC 61089 and CSA C61089 state for overhead conductor and formalizes the rules of applying lay factors for a conductor design. While this knowledge is common practice in conductor design, it was not stated in the ASTM standard. 2) Revision of Table 2 - Lay Factors for ACSS conductors. Table 2 used to include lay ratio information for the steel cores. When the steel core information was stripped out of the table the remaining rows in the table should have been combined. For example instead of a separate row for 72/7, it should have been combined with the 76/19 and 84/19 row. During discussion within the ASTM B01 committee it was agreed that the table should also drop the preferred lay length values. 3) Add in the reference to ASTM B1006 Code Word Names specification and update Table 1 footnote on code word name reference to ASTM B1006.
