    Rationale

    The ASTM C469 standard currently provides a precision statement for modulus of elasticity values ranging from 2.5 to 4.0 x 106 psi, which the committee believes the statistics were generated from 6 x 12 inch cylinders and concrete compressive strength values ranging from 2,000 to 4,500 psi. A task group has been formed within ASTM C09.61 Testing for Strength with an objective to add precision statistics to the standard that are more relevant for concrete produced today (compressive strength values up to 20 ksi). There has been a variety of research in this area, but none specifically to determine a statistical precision statement on data generated by a controlled group of higher concrete strengths, cylinder sizes, and laboratories. A proposed test program is outlined below.
