ASTM WK59386

New Practice for Field Measurement of Asphalt Mixture Temperatures by Hand-Held Temperature Measurement Devices

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D04.30 | Committee D04 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

This practice covers the process of taking field measurements between 50 to 220C [122 to 428F] of the temperature of asphalt mixtures using hand-held devices during production, storage, transport, laydown and compaction of asphalt mixtures.

There is currently not a standard in ASTM that describes these activities. This standard would be beneficial to asphalt mixture producers and field-paving technicians as a method to measure the temperature with hand-held devices, such as infrared non-contact or direct contact methods, for quality control.
