    1. Scope

1.1 This standard is compilation of terminology related to the body dimensions for necessary apparel sizing including use with 3D body scanning systems. 1.2 This standard is designed to facilitate communication between 2D apparel product systems and 3D body scanning systems that represent three-dimensional human body figures. 1.3 This standard provides syntax and semantics for describing 3D human body dimensions between apparel producers and 3D body scan developers. This standard also provides essential landmarks and body part identifier for describing enhanced body measurements. The file format for the 3D body scan data exchange file defined by this standard complies with Extensible Markup Language (XML) format.

This standard is needed to enable the integration of measurement data into other CAD systems for the automated development of apparel patterns. The users may be manufacturers, retailers, and government agencies.
