    Rationale

    A study made by the Design Institute for Physical Properties (DIPPR) located at Brigham Young University and financed by 27 organizations, among them major oil companies, revised, determined and published the Boiling Points of n- Paraffins. The Boiling Points covered in this study range from C1 to C120.These Boiling Points have been adopted by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and replaces the boiling points reported in the API tables of Project 44. Many of the boiling points presently used in the current ASTM Simulated Distillation methods do not have a substantiated origin. A presentation was made by DIPPR in summer of 2014 to all members of subcommittee D0204. The Table covering the carbon number for this method is shown below listed in Celsius and Fahrenheit. Work continues at DIPPR and API TDC on the adoption of new NBPs of the n-paraffins for calibration of ASTM SimDist methods.
