    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D34.03 | Committee D34 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK57010

    1. Scope

This is a guide to determining appropriate materials and degradation performance of materials that will be purposefully or by the design of use, discarded into municipal waste water systems. This guide covers the impact of the material on the operation, quality and safety of the waste water facility, discharged treated water and resulting sludge.

    Keywords

plastic; biodegradable; paper; micro-bead; sewage; chemical

    Rationale

Many consumer and industrial products are discarded into or alongside waste water, this includes both solid and liquid forms of materials. This standard provides a means for the evaluation of such materials and their resulting impact on the wastewater. It also provides a framework for selecting materials that are not detrimental to waste water when those materials are likely to be discarded into wastewater treatment facilities.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
