    1. Scope

    1.1 This test method covers the determination of metals and other elements in biodiesels by microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometry (MP-AES). The specific elements covered in this test method are Ca, Mg, K, Na, and P. 1.2 This test method uses soluble metals in organic solvents for calibration and does not purport to determine quantitatively insoluble particulates. Analytical results are particle size dependent, and low results are obtained for particles larger than a few micrometers. 1.3 Elements present at concentrations above the upper limit of the calibration curves can be determined with additional appropriate dilutions and no degradation of precision. Alternatively, the element can be measured at a less sensitive wavelength providing the measurement falls within the calibration curve for the element at that wavelength. 1.4 Units--The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
