ASTM WK56841

New Test Method for Standard Test Method for Multielement Analysis of Crude Oils Using Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (MP-AES)

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D02.03 | Committee D02 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK56841

    1. Scope

The determination of Ni, V, Fe and other elements in crude oil and other heavy fuels.

    Keywords

Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (MP-AES):Multielement analysis:crude oil:fuel oil:marine fuel oil

    Rationale

This standard would benefit the industry by providing a safer means of elemental analysis because it does not require acetylene for operation. In addition, the sample procedure does not require digestion nor ashing prior to introduction into the MP-AES. This new technology has been very accepted by the industry and there is a strong demand for a standardized test for this technique.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
