ASTM WK56406

New Specification for Standard Specification for Precast Concrete Culvert, Storm Drain, and Sewer Pipe To Be Installed Using Trenchless Methods

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: C13.02 | Committee C13 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1.This specification covers the manufacturing of reinforced concrete pipe that is intended to be installed using trenchless methods such as, but not limited to; jacking, micro tunneling, pipe ramming, etc. The typical use of this type of pipe is for the conveyance of sewage, industrial wastes, storm water, utilities, or personnel.

    concrete pipe, jacking, microtunneling, trenchless

To minimize disruption to the public, and to avoid conflicts with existing utilities, there are many occasions when a pipe is installed by pushing it through the ground instead of using a trench with direct bury methods. There are pipe elements and tolerances that are more critical for pipe installed using trenchless methods, than they might otherwise be for pipe installed using direct bury. The proposed standard will allow engineers, contractors, and producers to specify and produce a pipe that is specific for the unique requirements of trenchless installations.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
