ASTM WK56176

New Guide for Operating an Anaerobic Digestion Facility

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D34.03 | Committee D34 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK56176

    1. Scope

This guide provides general guidelines for operating an anaerobic digestion facility, including system design and operational parameters.

    Keywords

    organic waste, biodegradation

    Rationale

In recent years there has been an increased interest in utilizing anaerobic digestion for the treatment of organic waste. This interest has increased the number of anaerobic digestion facilities and there have been ASTM standards written to test the performance of materials in anaerobic digestion environments. Unfortunately, there is a wide variation in the operation of these facilities which can result in failed operations, increased environmental impact and hazardous situations. This standard is intended to provide a guide to the operation of an anaerobic digester to maximize safety while minimizing environmental harm.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
