New Practice for Service Life Prediction of Polymeric Materials

1. Scope

This Practice outlines a systematic approach to service life prediction, including the information required for trhe development of accelerated tests, design of accelerated expsoure protocols, the analysis of weathering test results, creation of a predictive service life prediction models and their validation.

Keywords

weathering, durability, prediction, service life, polymer, plastic, coating

Rationale

Application of service life prediction protocols have been growing in use within a number of industries (e.eg. paints, plastics, solar energy). While service life prediction methodologies are well documented in the technical literature there is not a practical technical guide for industry on how to design such studies. This practice will fill that gap. It is anticipated that this practice will be used to support the development of test methods and durability specifications for products.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
