ASTM WK55249

New Specification for Ground Glass Pozzolan for Use in Concrete

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: C09.24 | Committee C09 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK55249

    1. Scope

1.1 This specification covers ground glass pozzolans for use in concrete where pozzolanic action is desired, where other properties normally attributed to ground glass pozzolans may be desired, or where both objectives are to be achieved. 1.2 Three categories of ground glass are included in this specification as ground glass pozzolans--container glass, plate glass, and E-glass. 1.3 Units--The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the inch-pound units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the standard. Values are stated in only SI units when inch-pound units are not used in practice. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

    Keywords

container glass; plate glass; E-glass; ground glass pozzolan

    Rationale

Ground glass is a material that can be beneficially used in concrete when properly processed. The large volumes of ground glass available make it a viable alternative to other materials such as coal fly ash.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
