ASTM WK54650

New Test Method for SLURRY ABRASION RESISTANCE OF GEOTEXTILES (ROTATING DRUM METHOD)

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D35.03 | Committee D35 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK54650

    1. Scope

1.1 This test method covers the determination of resistance of geotextiles to abrasion using a rotating drum abrasion tester. This test method at this point has only been evaluated for geotextiles, therefore the test method is designated for geotextiles only, as all products may not lend themselves to this test method for abrasion. If later developments indicate a wider scope for this test method, appropriate changes may be considered.. 1.2The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in inch-pound units are provided as information only. 1.3This standard is generally based on the Federal Waterways Engineering and Research Institute BUNDESANSTALT FR WASSERBAU (BAW) Guidelines for Testing Geotextiles for Navigable Waterways, Section 3.11, 1994

    Keywords

    hydraulic abrasion

    Rationale

This draft standard is by request of our Indian colleagues who are using this test procedure to support important material procurements associated with coastal and river way erosion control projects. Thye has asked specifically at ASTM D35s meeting held in December 2015, Mumbai, that we standardize this procedure to provide an international platform for its use.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
