ASTM WK54504

New Guide for Measuring the Heat of Hydration (Exothermic Profile) during field installations of refractory castables.

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: C08.09 | Committee C08 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK54504

    1. Scope

This guide applies to all refractory castables with a reactive binder system that produces a measurable heat profile during the setting and hardening process. The quality of field casts can be greatly improved by using Heat of Hydration (Exothermic profile) to determine set and strength development.

    Keywords

Installation, Strength, Set time, Refractory Castable

    Rationale

Knowing the status of set time and strength development during field installations gives Installers and End Users the ability to determine when the optimal time is to de-mold and/or start the bake out process, to ensure a defect free installation.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
