ASTM WK45208

Revision of D6696 - 14 Standard Guide for Understanding Cyanide Species

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: D6696 - 16

Developed by Subcommittee: D19.06 | Committee D19 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Rationale

    1) a need to identify weak acid dissociable metal cyanide complexes that are disassociated not through mildly acidic conditions but through the introduction of ligand-exchange reagents, 2) a need to remove the metal cyanide compound Hg(CN)2 from Table 2, 3) a need to clearly state that all transition metal-metal cyanide complex salts are extremely stable and generally insoluble under acidic and neutral pH conditions, 4) a need to expand the definition of Total Cyandie to include dissociation and release of free cyanide when refluxed under strongly acidic, or (strongly) alkaline conditions, 5) the need for a refined definition of available cyanide as a class of cyanide species that dissociate and release free cyanide under the action of weak acid or ligand-exchange reagents.
