ASTM WK45054

New Practice for preparing samples for ecotoxicity testing after soil degradation

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D20.96 | Committee D20 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1 The standard Practice is applicable to plastic materials 1.2 This standard Practice is used to produce samples of soil where plastic specimens have been degraded. 1.3 The soil samples can then be used for subsequent ecotoxicity testing 1.4 This standard test practice is not suitable for testing degradation of plastic materials.

soil biodegradation; biodegradable plastics; biodegradability in soil; environmental fate;toxicity

This practice is needed to generate soil samples that have been incubated with biodegradable plastics under optimal conditions to favor biodegradation. These soil samples can be subjected to subsequent ecotoxicity testing. In turn, the data generated by the ecotoxicity testing are needed for specification on soil biodegradable plastics.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
