ASTM WK44325

New Guide for Guide to Performance Tests for the Evaluation of Asphalt Mixtures

    (What is a Work Item?)

Developed by Subcommittee: D04.23 | Committee D04 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

1.1 This guide is intended to be a reference for tests that may be used to characterize the potential performance of an asphalt mixture. This practice applies to the testing of asphalt mixtures to estimate performance characteristics such as permanent deformation and cracking potential. This practice does not purport to be an all inclusive listing of performance tests for asphalt mixtures. It is intended as a guide covering existing tests that have been used to evaluate asphalt mixtures for performance characteristics. Testing may be done on loose mixture or from samples taken from a compacted pavement.

There is not a single resource for performance based tests at the present. This could be used by industry, agencies, and researchers for determining appropriate tests for specific characterizations of asphalt mixes, for both design and forensic evaluations.
