ASTM WK43935

    Revision of F876 - 13a Standard Specification for Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Active Standard: F876 - 17

    Developed by Subcommittee: F17.26 | Committee F17 | Contact Staff Manager

    WK43935

    Keywords

    crosslinked polyethylene; hydrostatic stress; PEX; PPI; pipe; pressure; tubing;

    Rationale

    Project No. 26-12-20 to revise notch depth specification - Rationale: No tolerance on the notch depth is currently provided within the standard and there is currently no requirement for verifying the notch depth. As this is a pressure-based test, the test stress on the sample will vary with notch depth with deeper notches representing a more aggressive test. An excessively deep or shallow notch may provide a false indication of material performance resulting in a false pass or fail result. Addition of a tolerance and verification of the notch depth to the standard will reduce the potential for false pass or fail results.
