ASTM WK42675

    New Specification for Performance of Press-Connect Fittings for Piping and Tubing Systems

    (What is a Work Item?)

    Developed by Subcommittee: F25.11 | Committee F25 | Contact Staff Manager

    1. Scope

    This specification establishes the performance characteristics required for Press-Connect fittings for use in piping and tubing systems. These fittings directly attach to pipe or tube by mechanical deformation of the pipe or tube or fitting, or a combination thereof, creating a seal. The seal may be created via the mechanical deformation or created independently.

    Currently, Europe utilizes press-connect technology for approximately eighty percent (80%) of their piping & tubing fitting systems. The US was introduced to press-connect technology in 1999 & this technology has continued to grow. Press-connect technology is a viable alternative to traditional connection methods. Press-connect systems are used for fire protection service; gas fuel service; potable & hydronic water service. Current users are piping & plumbing contractors; US government facilities (including naval construction);
