1.1 This specification defines chemical composition and other criteria for compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biogas used as internal combustion engine (ICE) motor vehicle fuels. 1.3 The criteria contained within this standard were primarily constructed from data collected from North American natural gas distribution systems. As the data ensemble increases from reporting of the characteristics of other natural gas distribution systems and geographic areas, this specification will be revised to include the additional data in future versions of this specification. 1.3 This specification applies to the final fuel as delivered into the on-board fuel tanks of a motor vehicle. 1.4 Units--The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. Other units of measurement included in this standard are for reference only. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
This specification is needed to satisfy state and international requirements for the sale of liquified and compressed natural gas as a motor vehicle fuel.
