    1. Scope

    This specification covered directly buried underground and above ground supported pre-insulated piping systems used to convey pressurized fluids for direct heating and cooling, geothermal, solar, waste heat recovery, cryogen liquids, process fluids, hot and cold water systems, fuel, and other fluids. The insulated piping systems covered by this specificaiton do not possess an air gap between the insulation and jacket. The three are bonded together. This specification coveres only piping systems insulated by bonded polyurethane rigid foam and jacketed by high-density polyethylene or fiberglass reinforced plastic. The systems and units covered by this specification are intended for long term service from -320 F (-196 C) to +250 F (+121 C) directly buried or supported above ground.

    Rationale
