A round robin has been carried out in 2004 involving two EDXRF based methodsbased on (i) a low-background proportional detector and (ii) polarised source forsulfur determination in the range 1 to 60 mg/kg. This has resulted from arecommendation from the 2002 round robin report of CEN TCI9 WG27 toinvestigate the precision of new generation EDXRF equipment once it becamemore widely available. Since the interest in low level sulfur measurement ( 50 mg/kg and less) in fuels isof increasing relevance in both Europe and the USA, it was decided to carry out ajoint EI/ASTM exercise using fuels of interest sourced from both areas. Ninelaboratories participated in the low-background proportional detector method andeleven laboratories in the polarisation method.
