    1. Alcance

    1.1 Esta especificación abarca el uso de agencias de compras en la formulación de especificaciones para las adquisiciones de combustible para turbinas de aviación por contratos.

    1.2 Esta especificación define los requisitos mínimos de propiedades para los combustibles de turbinas de aviones Jet A y Jet A-1, y describe los aditivos aceptables para su uso en motores y aeronaves de uso civil y militar. La Especificación D1655 fue desarrollada inicialmente para aplicaciones civiles, pero ha sido adoptada para aeronaves de uso militar. En el apéndice se puede encontrar información de orientación sobre el uso de los combustibles Jet A y Jet A-1 en aplicaciones especializadas.

    1.3 Esta especificación pueden utilizarse como estándar para la descripción de la calidad de los combustibles de turbinas de aviación desde el proceso de producción hasta la aeronave. Sin embargo, esta especificación no define las pruebas y procedimientos de garantía de calidad necesarios para asegurar que el combustible en el sistema de distribución continúe cumpliendo con esta especificación después de la certificación de los lotes. Dichos procedimientos se describen en otros lugares, por ejemplo en ICAO 9977, Estándar EI/JIG 1530, JIG 1, JIG 2, API 1543, API 1595 y ATA-103.

    1.4 Esta especificación no incluye a todos los combustibles que son satisfactorios para los motores de turbinas de aviación. Ciertos equipos o condiciones de uso pueden permitir un rango de características más amplio, o más reducido, que el que se muestra en esta especificación.

    1.5 Los combustibles de turbinas de aviación definidos en esta especificación pueden utilizarse en otros motores de turbinas para los cuales estén específicamente diseñados y certificados.

    1.6 Esta especificación ya no incluye el combustible para turbinas de aviación de corte amplio (Jet B). La FAA emitió un Boletín de Información Especial de Aeronavegabilidad (Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin) que ahora aprueba el uso de la Especificación D6615 para reemplazar la Especificación D1655 como la especificación para Jet B, y refiere a los usuarios a este estándar para referencia.

    1.7 Los valores indicados en unidades del Sistema Internacional (SI) deben considerarse como estándar. Sin embargo, no se incluyen otras unidades de medida en este estándar.

    1.8 Este estándar no pretende abordar todas las inquietudes de seguridad, en caso de existir alguna, relacionadas con su uso.
