Arabian Tunnelling Conference Set for December in Dubai
On Dec. 10-11 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the UAE Society of Engineers will host the Arabian Tunnelling Conference, with the theme of Sustainable Tunnelling in GCC (Challenges and Opportunities), in collaboration with the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Utilization Association. ASTM International is a supporting organization for the event. More than 600 experts from around the world are expected to attend the conference, which will cover micro and sustainable tunneling, structures, safety, and contracts and risk management, and will also include an exhibition.
Standards Alliance Kicks Off
The U.S. Agency for International Development – American National Standards Institute Standards Alliance initiative began with a Sept. 26 event in Washington, D.C. The alliance partnership is intended to facilitate trade growth and standardization infrastructure in developing countries. The partnership will provide capacity building and technical exchange specifically related to the implementation of the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade Agreement.
Certification Program Launched for Ready Mixed Concrete Producers
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has introduced a certification program: a quality management system to be used by ready mixed concrete producers. Using criteria based on the manual, Guideline Manual for a Quality Management System for Ready Mixed Concrete, the program calls for companies to maintain a quality manual with certain specified criteria and must demonstrate that its quality-related activities conform to the manual; an independent third-party evaluation by NRMCA-selected auditors is required.
Manufacturing and Security Conferences Slated for June 2014
The BIG M manufacturing convergence, along with the RAPID conference and exposition, the International Manufacturing Research Conference and the Industrial Network Cyber Security conference, will be held June 9-14, 2014, in Detroit, Mich. The BIG M, sponsored by SME (formerly the Society of Manufacturing Engineers) and collaborating organizations, will include an exposition and conference focusing on technology and research as well as the issues facing manufacturers today. The RAPID — Additive Manufacturing Solutions and 3D Imaging Conference and Exposition will highlight new technologies in additive manufacturing; the International Manufacturing Research Conference will provide a forum for manufacturing research and industrial applications; and the Industrial Network Cybersecurity by ISA — the International Society for Automation conference will cover technologies, business relevance, workforce issues and the impact on safety of industrial network cybersecurity solutions.
NACE International CORROSION 2014 to Be Held in March
CORROSION 2014 will be held March 9-13, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. The 69th annual conference of NACE International, the CORROSION 2014 technical program will include more than 40 symposia with papers on a wide range of corrosion topics, including corrosion management, issues related to carbon capture and storage, direct assessment techniques and managing corrosion with polymers. Forums will also be held that will address such topics as microbiologically influenced corrosion, how to measure corrosion control return on investment and coatings. An exposition will include more than 380 companies.
