International Green Construction Code Initiative Is Launched

ASTM International is a cooperating sponsor of the International Green Construction Code, an initiative that is expected to reduce energy usage and the carbon footprint of commercial buildings. Titled IGCC: Safe and Sustainable by the Book, the initiative was launched by the International Code Council on June 29. The goal is to develop a green model code focused on new and existing commercial buildings. In addition to ASTM, the American Institute of Architects is a cooperating sponsor of IGCC. More.

From Sept. 21 to 24, ASTM will present Virtual Officers' Training Week, during which ASTM staff members will be conducting online training modules, providing committee officers, subcommittee chairmen and others in leadership positions with valuable information to efficiently manage ASTM responsibilities. Modules will cover topics such as balloting and handling negative votes, and officer and subcommittee chairman's duties and responsibilities. More.

Additive Manufacturing Committee Holds First Meeting

Turnout was strong as ASTM International Committee F42 on Additive Manufacturing Technologies held its first meeting at ASTM headquarters on May 27-28. Additive manufacturing differs from other production processes because objects such as the lamp shown above are created by adding material, rather than subtracting, until the desired object is formed. Several task groups were formed under each of F42's subcommittees during the meeting. A video explains more about Committee F42. More.

Unmanned Aircraft Committee to Meet in July

ASTM International Committee F38 on Unmanned Aircraft Systems will meet at ASTM International headquarters on July 22 and 23. The meeting will include a briefing on small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) from the Federal Aviation Administration and F38, and discussion of standards needed to support regulatory efforts, based on the recommendations of the FAA's sUAS Aviation Rulemaking Committee.
