 ABOUT THE EVENT

A Workshop on New Approaches for Field Corrosion Monitoring and Testing will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Sponsored by ASTM Committee G01 on Corrosion of Metals and The Materials Technology Institute, the workshop will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans in New Orleans, LA, in conjunction with the November standards development meetings of the committee.

Objective
ASTM technical Committee G-1 on the Corrosion of Metals has been a leader in developing standards for field corrosion testing. In particular, the G4 Standard Guide for Conducting Corrosion Tests in Field Applications provided a reliable approach for carrying out mass loss evaluations of coupons in plant situations. The G96 Standard Guide for Online Monitoring of Corrosion in Plant Equipment (Electrical and Electrochemical Methods) covered techniques for rapid and continuous monitoring of corrosion rates in operating plants. These standards have been a valuable resource for engineers and technicians responsible for the safety and reliability of plant equipment. The objective of the current workshop is to survey the current state of the art involved with determining corrosion rate and damage possibilities in field situations, with the goal of updating the existing standards, and determining if additional standards on new approaches would be valuable.
