 ABOUT THE EVENT

A Workshop on Opportunities for Maritime Standards Development will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Sponsored by ASTM Committee F25 on Ships and Marine Technology, the workshop will be held at the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, DC.

Objective
ASTM F25 cordially invites you to participate in the exchange of ideas about developing cost effective standards to help you comply with new laws, international conventions, and Government requirements.

Every day, increasing costly demands are being placed on the maritime industry to meet new laws and international conventions which are followed by many new and revised Government policies and regulations. In the years between new laws and implementing regulations, industry is left to design and construct vessels to meet ever changing Government policies. You can break this cycle with the development of Industry Standards that will meet the new laws and which can readily be adopted in Government regulations and DOD contracts.

Work directly with Government and fellow industry representatives to identify and develop the standards you need to meet these new laws, international conventions and Government requirements.

In order to improve shipyard productivities, ease of vessel operation, save on maintenance, and personnel/environmental safety, it is urgent that we have this dialog between the regulatory bodies, the classification societies, U.S. Navy, and You - the designers, builders, material suppliers, labor, operators and vessel owners. This workshop is designed to facilitate dialog and discussions regarding the needs to develop, revise, and unify maritime industry standards. Hence, your earnest participation is greatly appreciated.
