A Symposium on Plastic Pipe and Fittings: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow, sponsored by ASTM Committee F17 on Plastic Piping Systems, will be held in concurrent sessions on Monday, November 9, 2009. The symposium will be held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, in conjunction with the November 9-12 standards development meetings of Committee F17. The current wide adoption and use of plastic piping systems for so many varied and important engineering applications is testimony to the widespread acceptance of plastic piping as engineered products. Engineered in this meaning refers to the fact that both the materials and piping products are recognized as offering predicable, reproducible, long lasting and cost effective performance. It is now over 50 years since activity was started in ASTM for the development of standards, test methods and practices for plastic piping materials, products and the use of these products. ASTM standards have proven crucial in the development and use of plastic piping systems. Over this period, improved plastic piping materials have emerged, as have improved joining practices, fittings and appurtenances, as well as design and installation practices. Our understanding of the engineering behavior of these materials and piping products has also vastly improved and is still continuing. This symposium is the third in a series, the objective of which has been to report on the current status of important aspects relating the technology and standardization of plastic piping systems with a focus on their relationship to current applications. The first symposium on Buried Plastic Pipe Technology was held in Dallas, Texas in 1990 and the second in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1994. The language of the symposium will be English. Students - A student's fee is waived, provided that he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time. After registering online, the student must check in at the ASTM Registration Desk on site and present his/her student ID. The waived fee includes admission to the technical sessions, but does not include the STP described above. All attendees, including presenters and ASTM members, are urged to register online for this event so that space requirements can be accommodated. If you do not register online by the closing date, then you must register upon arrival at the symposium. All attendees must check in at the ASTM registration desk upon arrival at symposium. Cancellations A refund of the symposium fee will be honored only if requested at least 7 business days prior to the symposium.
