 ABOUT THE EVENT

A Workshop on Progress in Creep-Fatigue Test Methods and Models, sponsored by ASTM Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture and its Subcommittees E08.05 on Deformation and Fatigue Crack Formation and E08.06 on Crack Growth Behavior, will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2009. The workshop will be held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, in conjunction with the November 9-12 standards development meetings of Committee E08.

The workshop will address progress in creep-fatigue crack formation and crack growth for high temperature materials and structures. Presentations on related research are sought to enable exchange of information and ideas to assist the development of two ASTM standards on (a) Creep-fatigue Crack Formation and (b) Creep-fatigue Crack Growth.

Solicitation of Presentations
Presentations on recent developments in test equipment, experimental techniques, models for representing the data and applications of the data are sought.

A technical program (which includes presentation times, paper titles, and presenters' names), will be posted on the ASTM website by end September 2009.

 CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS

Workshop attendees interested in receiving 0.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) should complete a CEU application form at the adjournment of the workshop, and then submit it to the ASTM staff member on site. A certificate will be sent to the attendee approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the workshop.

Select your dates and proceed as instructed. If you need assistance with your hotel reservation call the hotel directly at 404-577-1234.

Group rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full but no later than Friday, October 9, 2009. ASTM rates are $145 single/double plus 15% tax (you must mention ASTM November Meeting in order to receive a group rate). You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full.

IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

U.S. GOVERNMENT RATES: The Hyatt Regency Atlanta has a limited number of rooms at the Government per diem rate of $140. To obtain a government rate, call the hotel directly at 404-577-1234 to make your reservation.

ADVANCE DEPOSIT: The Hyatt Regency Atlanta requires a credit card to guarantee your reservation.

CONFIRMATION NOTICES: The Hyatt Regency Atlanta Reservation Center sends confirmations by email.

CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, notice of cancellation must be received by 3:00pm, 24 hours prior to arrival date.

INTERNET: The Hyatt Regency Atlanta provides internet access throughout the hotel at a cost of $9.95 for 24 hours.

ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM is providing computers with an internet connection. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email.

 ASTM TRAINING SESSION

ASTM staff will provide several training sessions on various subjects to educate and assist officers, members and non-members of ASTM committees. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Developing and Revising an ASTM Standard (Tuesday) 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    During this joint Technical Committee Operations and Editorial module, we will review both new and revised standards as they go through the development and publication process. We will cover how standard ideas are introduced, drafted, and publicized as well as review ASTM's electronic tools and time-tested techniques for accelerating the development of your standard. Included in the workshop will be a brief review of work items registration, the three stages of balloting, and an explanation of the key roles of your editor and the standard's technical contact.

  • Touring the ASTM Website (Wednesday) 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    ASTM continuously makes enhancements to the ASTM Website in order to facilitate member participation. This training module is intended to be a round table discussion driven by member questions about what features and tools exist on the website to enhance member participation. Areas of discussion will include, but are not limited to: Online Collaboration, Negative Vote Resolution, Balloting, My ASTM, Virtual Meetings, Member Training and Roster maintenance. Please come to the module with questions that Staff will address by navigating the ASTM website.

Refreshments will be available at both sessions.

 HEADQUARTERS AND TRANSPORTATION

All meetings will be held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, 265 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta, GA 30303. The hotel is located approximately 10 miles/20 minutes from the Hartsfield International Airport. AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE: Link Airport Shuttle Service is available at the ground transportation terminal. The cost is $16.50 one way and $29 round trip. Taxis cost approximately $32.

MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) - From inside Hartsfield International Airport, MARTA runs Monday thru Friday from 5:00am thru 1:00am every 20 minutes and on weekends and holidays from 5:00am thru 12:30am every 25 minutes. The cost for MARTA is $2.00 one way.

PARKING: Valet parking is available at $27 per day with in and out privileges.

 MISCELLANEOUS

Please advise the hotel and ASTM of any disability which will require special attention. The Hyatt Regency Atlanta is in compliance with ADA standards.
