 ABOUT THE EVENT

The 2009 ASTM Johnson Conference: Standardization of Mold Response Procedures, sponsored by ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality, will be held July 13-15, 2009. The Conference will be held at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont, USA.

The three-day Conference is one of the ongoing series of ASTM "Johnson Conferences", and the University of Vermont venue provides an informal forum for "cutting-edge" analysis and discussion of controversial issues.

Conference emphasis will be on practical, science-based field applications. The program will focus on development of standard mold protocols considering moisture dynamics, occupant sensitivity, analytical techniques, use, misuse and interpretation of microbial testing, response options and verification. Critiques of existing guidelines, discussion of litigation methodology and new technologies are also welcome. The Conference format will include the following four sessions with example topics listed:

  • Assessment – building inspection techniques, moisture evaluation
  • Testing – sampling and analytical procedures; new technologies; data interpretation
  • Health – health effects; screening procedures; causation; susceptibility
  • Remediation – removal/treatment options; site control; personal protection; verification

Roundtable discussions will encourage audience participation and solicit recommendations for protocol development, prioritizing research needs and suggesting new consensus standards for development by ASTM Committee D22.

The Conference will be of interest to investigators (e.g., hygienists, engineers, physicians, and public health officials), laboratory analysts and managers, stakeholders (e.g., building owners and managers, insurance industry, public interest groups) and federal, state and local government representatives.

No proceedings from the conference will be published, and recordings of presentations will not be permitted. Citations of the work presented may be made only with the written permission of the authors.

Technical Program - The preliminary technical program (which includes presentation times, paper titles, and presenters' names) can be accessed at http://myastm.astm.org/MEETINGS/SYMPOSIAPROGRAMS/D22ID1439.pdf.
